Features of upcoming ShadoCMS 7.7 - Part 1

With the upcoming release of ShadoCMS 7.7 build we will be blogging details on features of the build this week. The build has gone into final testing this week and is due for release on the 6th June 2007 (depending on how testing goes of course).

The main focus of the build will be

Updates to the Multi-language architecture and integration of a comprehensive Translation Management System ( that links to 3rd party human translators)
A new version of the Search Engine Optimization module
Updates to the core editing and publishing systems
Updates to the FMS
New Mass mail application
ZoomFlex / SOF remote persistence engine
Various bug fixes and requested updates

To kick things off we'll cover off some of the new features around the editing and publishing system.

TinyMCE WYWIWYG Editor update

The current version of TinyMCE was version 2.0.1 which shipped in December 2005, we are updating to version 2.1.1 which shipped in February 2007 , the log of changes between the builds is extensive and contains many 100's of fixes.

Configurable Workflow Emails

OK, well overdue but is now in the build. You can now configure emails on a site by site basis. Customizable email files live in the sites app_config folder but there is also an interface for customizing emails from the workflow menu. The 5 emails you can customize for the standard workflows are:

Content Awaiting Publishing, Page owner notification, publisher notification, mark for re-edit, decline and reset.

A number of variables, and queries are passed to the email files enabling a lot of flexibility in how you cusotmize the emails. We have also given the standard emails a face lift.

Preview / Unpublished view of site

There are now 3 modes that can be used when working the front of the site

Edit Site Mode - the same as the current "edit" mode

Published Site Mode - the same as the current "preview" mode

Preview (unpublished content) mode - this mode enables you to see the site as it will look but before content is published . Basically "Edit mode' but without the container controls and outline. This feature has been much requested.

New container control styles

We've updated the container control styles to have the latest Shado look and feel.

Publisher Notes

When an editor commits a container they will be prompted with a dialog box to enter notes on what they have changed. These notes are added to the email sent to the publisher and also to the container notes.

Content Changed Reports

A new report section has been added to the workflow section, this will give access to a number of reports around content changes. You will be able to view which containers/pages have bee updated, by who and what was changed.
