ShadoCMS 8.5 Released

ShadoCMS v8.5 has been released further solidifying Shado as a leader in the Multilanguage and Rich Internet Application market.

ShadoCMS v8.5 is out and available now for download. We have made some major updates to both the standard functionality in SHado and added some great new features - particulalry around the continued focus on automating web localisation and providing Shado clients a framework to rapidly build and deploy FLEX based Rich Internet Applications.

Ajax-based Editing of Containers

Container editing is now based on Ajax. This means the containers opened for editing do not require a complete refresh of the page each time the container is saved/committed. This increases the speed of editing as well as provides an improved user experience.  Ajax-based editing also provides for opening multiple containers on the same page simultaneous for editing.


Update to TinyMCE WYSIWYG Editor

ShadoCMS now ships with the new version of TinyMCE editor - Version 3.0.7. The new version of the editor has fixed a number of issues in the earlier version (2.1.1). A log of all the changes is available at the TinyMCE website (http://tinymce.moxiecode.com).


Significant Improvements to Multi-language Capabilities

In this release we have improved the core multi-language functionality.  The previous multi language has now been upgraded and is now the ShadoCMS Parallel Content Server.  The key feature of this has been improvements to how all appropriate content objects are managed for multi-lingual requirements.  See the Translation Management System below for some additional new features.


Translation Management System (TMS) Integration with Third-party Services

ShadoCMS now has native integration with the a few translations services. Chief among them is the Across Language Server. This makes the process of creating multi-lingual content effortless.  Editors can now create and edit content which can be automatically sent to the Across API gateway which creates translation projects in Across.  Once the translations have been completed in Across the content is made available to publish in ShadoCMS.


New Flex Designer

We have created a new Flex-based user interface which allows you to quickly and easily build server side objects, define the object properties and the relationships between objects.  This uses the same underlying Shado Objects Framework but provides a more GUI driven means of building applications.  These applications may only use Flex for administration means and still have a HTML or Ajax front end or you may utlise Flex on the front end as well.  You can still access the original Object Designer from the main menu.


Beta Member Manager Functionality

The Member Manager is a new application for managing members (not ShadoCMS users) in your site or applications.  The administration interface is Flex-based and allows you to set access to areas of the site.  This module has been created to make managing extranet and social networking functionality easier within Shado.  It keeps these types of users separate from those users with editing rights making it easier to manage.  It also serves as the base for the re-release of News, Events, Email and other modules that require integrated user information.


Improvements to the Search Functionality

The search has been updated to use Lucene 2.3.  We have also included a much faster Java Wrapper to speed up the return of results on the front of the site as well as the indexing of the stores.  We have also addded the ability to add/delete individual objects to a filestore.


New Version of ZoomFlex

ZoomFlex now ships with the latest Cairngorm Extensions from Universal Mind.  This build also contains a new version of the ZoomFlex generator that leverages some of the newly introduced capabilities in the latest version of Cairngorm Extensions.
